    Nuclear dependence asymmetries in direct photon production

    We study the nuclear dependences of high-pTp_T jet cross sections in one photon and one jet production in proton-nucleus collisions. We find that there exist asymmetries between the outgoing jets and photons. A convincing reason responsible for those asymmetries are demonstrated in perturbative QCD.     Method for Extracting the Glueball Wave Function

    We describe a nonperturbative method for calculating the QCD vacuum and glueball wave functions, based on an eigenvalue equation approach to Hamiltonian lattice gauge theory. Therefore, one can obtain more physical information than the conventional simulation methods. For simplicity, we take the 2+1 dimensional U(1) model as an example.     Natural Selection, Irrationality and Monopolistic Competition

    This paper builds an evolutionary model of an industry where firms produce differentiated products. Firms have different average cost functions and different demand functions. Firms are assumed to be totally irrational in the sense that firms enter the industry regardless of the existence of profits; firms' outputs are randomly determined rather than generated from profit maximization problems; and firms exit the industry if their wealth is negative. It shows that without purposive profit maximization assumption, monopolistic competition still evolves in the long run. The only long run survivors are those that possess the most efficient technology, face the most favorable market conditions and produce at their profit maximizing outputs.     On the Finite-Time Blowup of a 1D Model for the 3D Incompressible Euler Equations

    We study a 1D model for the 3D incompressible Euler equations in axisymmetric geometries, which can be viewed as a local approximation to the Euler equations near the solid boundary of a cylindrical domain. We prove the local well-posedness of the model in spaces of zero-mean functions, and study the potential formation of a finite-time singularity under certain convexity conditions for the velocity field. It is hoped that the results obtained on the 1D model will be useful in the analysis of the full 3D problem, whose loss of regularity in finite time has been observed in a recent numerical study (Luo and Hou, 2013).Comment: 23 page
